September Meeting - Monday the 14th , Town Hall
"Building an RHS Show Garden—the inside story..." by MARION DALE. Marion is a locally based RHS award winning garden designer. She has trained in garden design at Lackham Horticultural College. For the September meeting, Marion will describe her experiences in building a show garden for the Malvern Spring Show in 2008.
October Meeting - Monday the 12th , Town Hall
"Wild Flowers of the Cotswolds—Remedies, Myths and Legends” by SUE DODD and SUE SMITH. Both speakers are enthusiastic amateur naturalists with a special interest in butterflies and wild flowers. They have been giving talks for many years. The speakers provide lots of interesting information on their subject matter and deliver their talks with a touch of humour.
November Meeting - Monday the 9th , Town Hall "Moving Beyond Organic" by MATT ADAMS. Matt Adams is Moving Beyond Organic. He is the director / coordinator of the Good Gardeners Association (a membership based charity) whose aim is to grow food for nutrition with the help and understanding of soil microbes.
December Meeting - Monday the 14th, Athelstan House, Priory Way (behind the Primary Care Centre)
AGM After a short, formal meeting to conduct the business of the Club, the AGM will include the ever enlightening horticultural quiz (organized by Derek Tilney) and a social gathering with refreshments.
January Meeting - Monday the 11th , Athelstan House, Priory Way (behind the Primary Care Centre)
"The History and Cultivation of Stone Fruits in the UK" by TONY WEBSTER. Tony has a PhD in Horticulture from London University (Wye College) and spent several years working as a researcher at the East Malling Research Station in Kent where his specialities included rootstocks for apples, pears, plums and sweet cherries.
February Meeting - Monday the 8th ,
"The Lost Sub-tropical Gardens of La Claire in Jersey" by TONY RUSSELL. Tony is currently Horticultural Director of the La Claire Sub-tropical Gardens Restoration Project in Jersey, Channel Islands and will address the Club on his activities.
March Meeting - Monday the 8th , Athelstan House, Priory Way (behind the Primary Care Centre)
"Oxford Botanic Garden - The first 387 Years" by TIMOTHY WALKER. Timothy Walker is the Director of the University of Oxford Botanic Garden. The Oxford Botanic Garden is the oldest in Britain. Since 1621 it has stood on the banks of the River Cherwell in the Centre of Oxford. It has evolved from a collection of medicinal herbs for seventeenth century physicians into the most compact, diverse collection of plants in the world. In 4 and 1/2 acres 8,000 species can be seen. This talk details were the Garden came from, where it has been and where it is going in the future.
April Meeting - Monday the 12th , Malmesbury Garden Centre
"Annuals and Forgotten Annuals." by LYN MILES. Lyn is a keen plants woman with a cottage style garden in Boscombe that is open for groups. Her 2/3 acre of wilderness paradise much loved by wildlife but not excluding weeds! She will be bringing plants.
(As noted in the Chairman’s Notes for the March Newsletter, the Garden Centre will stay open until 7pm so if we wish to some shopping we will have the opportunity that evening.)
